Back from PC Show 2011 and had both hands full lugging these.
I spent over two hours pouring over the many booths and finally decided on this Samsung deal clincher, which by all measures was the best of the best star buys in the laptop category. Both power packed and sleek looking, the Samsung RC410 laptop is a steal at SG$899.
It packs an Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB RAM (gasp!), nVIDIA GeForce 1GB VRAM, 500GB hard disk, 1.3M webcam, chiclet keyboard, 14″ HD screen and DVD writer. Best of all, I was given an extended 3-year product warranty upgrade plus tonnes of freebies1 .
A couple of things distracted me during my laptop hunting. One was the disturbing presence of a varied array of so-called ‘iPad-killing’ tablets on display. I fiddled with a Blackberry Playbook (inadequate) and Motorola Xoom (inept).
The other was the overwhelming crowd, which I was told was customary and expected. Despite it, the show was contemporary, well-organized and I enjoyed the experience.
